Pharos Marine has taken the Phalcon2000 RACON and adapted it to a flameproof Ex “d” enclosure making the Phalcon-2000 EXD the only Zone 1 RACON on the market that does not require an active purging system to maintain its Zone 1 rating. Many seamarks, especially buoys, provide a very poor response on radar screens. It is therefore customary for most authorities to equip their buoys, small lightfloats and small fixed marks with radar reflectors. [ pdf ]
This RTE has been designed for marine use, to enhance the radar return of what is otherwise a poor radar target. In adverse weather a target may disappear into the sea clutter.
